It’s not a death metal band, an extreme diet club or historic dominoes association—the Bones Brigade was a talented gang of teenage outcasts. Unmotivated by fame or popularity, they completely dedicated their lives to a disrespected art form. For most of the 1980s, this misfit crew headed by a 1970s ex-skateboard champion blasted the industry with a mixture of art and raw talent becoming the most popular skateboarding team in history. The core unit of the Bones Brigade built an empire that covered the world. They dominated contests, made hundreds of thousands of dollars, created the modern skateboard video, reinvented endemic advertising, pushed skate progression into a new era, and set the stage for a totally new form of skating called street style. There’s nothing comparable in today’s skateboarding.

Mens 1st place went Lewis Lacy setting the fastest time of 21.61 secs, 2nd place – James Horton, 3rd place – Dominic Meacher and 4th place – Greg Barden.

For the Women’s, 1st place went to Lora White with a time of 26.98 secs, 2nd place – our very own Lana Culley, 3rd place – Lorena Jones and 4th went to Emma Needham.

The event was a great success and we are looking into dates for early 2013 to host the next Rollapluza!

The weather was great all week (between 25-30 degrees C) so can definitely recommend a trip out there to anyone at this time of year. There is also loads to do with ‘Paradise Valley’(previous guests include Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix) within 40mins drive, quadbiking and Souk El Had, the biggest market in North Africa all within a short distance.

After unpacking the box and displaying the clothes we really got a sense of the quality and likability of the brand. All the items are also limited edition which we thought was a nice touch! I started surfing at the grand old age of 20. I didn’t live by the coast but was brought up with love and respect for the ocean by my mum who was born in the north east coastal town of Saltburn. I started shaping boards about 2 years ago, basically because I couldn’t get hold of the boards I wanted. I worked in an art gallery and spent most of my days waiting for customers, reading up on shaping and being incredibly inspired by what I saw happening in Cali with board design.

It wasn’t till 2010 that a friend persuaded me to shape a board for him after seeing my hand plane I made out of an old snapped board. I think my background in sculpture helped me translate my ideas into foam creations, but I am lucky to have had the guidance of some world class shapers along the way. I don’t really have a favourite place to surf, but a perfect right hand point break with endless nose ride sections would be amazing.

We will be heading out again this Thursday for our weekly ride night. We have decided to head to Urban reef passed Boscombe Pier, as always all are welcome to join us and if you have not had a chance to come out with us before, why not jump on your bike and meet us at Coast at 18:30! If you don’t have a bike, you are welcome to rent a single speed or cruiser as we have a bikes available. We would recommend lights for the ride back!

This Thursday’s ride is going to take us to 60 Million Postcards in Bournemouth – we are going to head down the prom and take a left at The Harvester up to the top of Bournemouth Gardens and then cruise down to postcards for a drink or two. We will head back down the gardens to Bournemouth Pier and back to Coast from there.

All are welcome, so feel free to join us at Coast (91 Salterns Rd, Poole) at 18:30! No worries if you dont have a bike, we have a fleet of cruisers and single speeds for hire, so give the shop a call or email to reserve one!

We recommend helmets and lights are a must for the ride back, we sell both at Coast if you need to pick em up or grab some on the night!

Desillusion magazine teamed up with Benjamin JeanJean, a French artist who’s into just about everything ( Photography – Drawing – Design ) and who is surrounded by an extremely dreamlike and mystical world. This association gave way to the creation of a highly atypical surfboard.

Inspired by the mag’s motto “Death of cool’, Benjamin Jean Jean created more than fifty illustrations, each one unique, and then shaped the whole thing himself, which in turn is more than just a board, it’s plain art. The board was shown at an exhibition, last month in Biarritz, France.

Tonight’s ride on the prom to Boscombe and Urban Reef was really good as we had the wind with us both ways and the rain managed to hold off. The prom was nice and quiet making for a super relaxed ride and a couple of drinks at the warmly lit Urban Reef decking.

We had a great turnout again and it was really good to see some new faces too. Will be having a ride night again next Thursday so feel free to join us – all are welcome, will post the route soon_

This weeks ride sees us head down the promenade to Boscombe for a little stop at Urban Reef. We will be taking a gentle cycle on the flat there and then stop for a beverage or two then back to Coast. The weather is looking to be mild so good conditions for the ride!

As always ALL are welcome and we are heading off from Coast at 18:30 Thursday evening – so if you have not joined us before why not try it out, its a fun ride and we all feel better for having stretched our legs! No worries if you dont have a bike, we rent single speed Foffa’s and Electra beach cruisers for the night. When we first came across Almond Surfboards last year, we were instantly blown away by the boards that they were hand shaping and their awesome colorways too!

Almond is the premier lifestyle brand of the Surfer+Craftsman… a collaborative effort of friends who enjoy making things the old fashioned way. Each surfboard is hand shaped, start-to-finish. So are the custom, hand-foiled wooden fins we glass onto nearly every board we build.

Keeping an eye on the quality coming from Almond, we decided to get our very own taste of their boards and asked Dave Alee and his team to shape us 3 longboards ranging from 9-10 ft and to come up with the designs too. We were pleased to hear that the boards are now finished and are going to be shipped very soon.

We cant wait to get them in the shop as they will definitely be a key feature – we will keep you posted on the unveiling…

Last nights ride saw us head over the ferry to the Bankes Arms for their 17th annual beer festival that will be running throughout the weekend. We had another great turnout of riders and the sun was out for us too – a couple of bike lights needed for the way home as it was a bit of a later ride this time. Will be heading out next thursday for ride no. 5 so if you’re keen, feel free to join us – all are welcome and if you dont have a bike, no worries we hire single speeds and cruisers out to!

Tonight’s ride took us to Lake Yard in Poole all along the waterfront. Besides the wind it was a gentle ride and a stop at Lake Yard which has a great location and view! After a drink we headed back to Coast with a race or two going on and a well deserved pizza delivery for the rest! Next weeks ride is looking to be over the ferry to Banks Arms again, but this time the beer festival is going on so looking forward to that! See you there_

Thursday Night Ride No.3 starts at its usual time of 18:30 from Coast tonight and we are heading over to Lake Yard in Poole and back, where we are told that its one of the areas hidden gems offering panoramic views of Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island, perfect for a couple of sundowners! Bike hire is also available if your looking for a relaxed beach cruiser or single speed. All are welcome so look forward to seeing you there!

There was a good turnout for last nights skimboarding ‘winch’ and BBQ evening down at midway path, Sandbanks, Poole. We had a couple of guys and girls trying out the Victoria skimboards and some of the Nineplus wetsuits – great feedback all round and a good turnout! Will be looking to host another gathering soon so will keep you posted_

We will be having a Skimboarding evening next Tuesday, 31st July form 18:30 running a winch between 2 of the groins at Midway Path on Sandbanks. We will have a couple of the boards we stock at the shop for everyone to have a go, so all are welcome, just bring a towel and your boardies / wetsuit. Hopefully if the weather is on our side we will also have a bbq and some drinks so feel free to bring down your disposable and join in! See you there!

Last nights ride saw us head from Coast to the ferry and over to The Banks Arms – another sunny evening with perfect conditions for riding! It was a gentle ride down from the ferry with a couple of hills that had us panting a bit but made the drink at the pub even more inviting. We then headed back to the ferry (which we all made) and stopped at the harbour for a late evening bbq on the beach!

This weeks ride has been confirmed – we have decided to go a bit further this time and head over the ferry to the Banks Arms. Generally an easy ride with one or two gentle hills, should be a great ride in the sunshine! Couple of things to remember on this one – its now £2 per cyclist return ticket for the ferry and please remember that its always safer to wear a helmet on any road ride.

If you dont have a bike but still fancy a ride, we are renting Electra Cruisers or Foffa Single Speeds for £5 for the evening ride. The plan is to meet at Coast for 18:30 then head over to Banks Arms for a drink then slowly head back to Coast!

The single speed or fixie has long been associated with inner city flat road riding or veledrome / track racing, but I having been riding my Foffa single speed for a while now around Poole and Bournemouth both hills and flatland and enjoy getting out on it more and more. I ride my bike ‘fixed’ which means no free wheeling for me and I can slow the bike down with slowing down the pedal rotation (great for the legs), however freewheel options are available by flipping the wheel around.

With the components kept to a minimum and a light weight ‘track frame geometry’ they are much lighter than a conventional bike and are very quick, perfect for cruising down the beach or over the ferry and great value for money.

We stock a handfull of Foffa bikes in the shop, but we also offer a ‘mix-your-fix’ system whereby you can customise your bike from frame colour and size, handlebars, grips to saddles and tyres. the bike then gets part built by the Foffa mechanics and sent down to the shop within approx 10 days where we finish it off (build times can vary). Foffa also offer a custom vinyl artwork option to completely wrap your Foffa frame in if you are feeling a bit more adventurous.

Hailing from Costa Mesa, California, Alex Knost certainly stands out of the crowd; a worthy heir to a surf culture that’s made up of pioneers, and numerous creative artists. After having followed in the footsteps of his spiritual big brother, Joel Tudor, Alex became in turn one of the best longboarders in the world, paddling his way to the front of the scene, in a counter culture that we thought was drowning under the waves of an extremely lucrative economy- surf industry. Almost uncatchable, the man flits like a butterfly from one art to the next (from photography to video, board shapes to music) trying to, like he says « lose himself in anything he does, hoping to exceed the limits that society has set him ».

A slightly tormented soul, maybe a bit too realistic for this world, although the two obviously go hand in hand, « This is Alex « is a total immersion in his everyday life, a celebration of raw counter culture: To give, understand, learn and influence, without waiting for anything in return, if not to perpetuate a style and a philosophy of life.

Starting this thursday, 19th July, we will be starting our ride nights. Tired of waiting for the sun, we have decided to brave it what ever the weather! From a young age skateboarding has inspired me and influenced every area of my life. Here I am at the age of 5 on my first ever plastic skateboard. I asked dad to move the Kingswood out of the garage so I could make this kicker ramp. I got my board second hand, and painted it blue with gold pinstripes. I thought it was the badest thing ever. Once I conquered the garage, I started bombing hills. It was terrifying, it was exhilarating, it was bliss. Almost 30 years on I realized it was time, time to bring that little plastic board back, and back for good.
